The Cylinder Of Control

Pelvic function depends on three areas of the anatomy, the pelvic muscles, the abdominal muscles and the diaphragm. These three areas are interconnected and work together in what we call ‘The Cylinder Of Control’.

In this diagram, we can see:

  1. Breathing diaphragm at the top of the cylinder
  2. Abdominal muscles forming the walls of the cylinder
  3. Pelvic floor at the bottom of the cylinder

These three parts of the cylinder work together and depend on each other for optimal function. If one part of the cylinder is restricted it will place a load on the other causing a dysfunction. Our goal is to optimise the function of each of these areas.

This web site will explain how to utilise breathing and other exercises to enable all parts of the cylinder to work together. Please make sure you understand the three areas of the body involved in The Cylinder Of Control.
