Causes - Chronic constipation

Many people suffer from chronic constipation for years before their problems are resolved.

The pelvic floor can be overactive and the muscles may not lengthen or release sufficiently for the motion to pass. Further pushing against the tight muscles can cause further tension in the pelvic floor and anal fissures may form a part of this picture. If pain becomes a feature and a cycle ensues, this may lead to development of trigger points, further dysfunction and possibly in some cases even leading to organ descent.

This is referred to as defecation dysfunction or bowel dysfunction.
